TO ANYONE WHO DOWNLOADED THE RECENT, 'VGRM09' VERSION OF THIS SHOW(added on 2/24/2011),

Well this reminds me of a sarcastic comment I once saw on a dime thread of a Bob Dylan
remaster that still had problems...it read, "This remaster needs remastering!!" Pretty funny.
I'm very sorry if you already downloaded my VGRM09 of this show that I posted a few
days ago, but I think that you should just delete that & get this one. The more I critically
listened to the show, the more clicks, mic bump/burps & other anomalies I found, so I
ended up just combing through the whole show with open ears & getting rid of them. Some
were minor, some were very loud & now they are gone. They were not on every track,
but they were on most(all but 5)...sometimes just one within the track, sometimes a
few. Once I finished this whole process, I couldn't get the few previously clean FLACs to
link up with the 'new' FLACs without gaps &/or SBEs, so there was no way of letting the
folks who already downloaded to just drop the 'bad' tracks & fill up their folders...so
very sorry, you'll all have to get it again, but let me say that it is so worth it because I think
it sounds great & 99% of all problems are now gone(a few bits of minor digi-noise remain
[see new notes below]). I really enjoyed diggin' on this show & hope you do, too. Again,
my sincere apologies for making you re-download it, but trust me, if you wanted it before,
then you want this version now!!

NAME THAT TUNE!!: In the final minute of "The Shape I'm In", Zero teases a very famous
tune that I(& you, probably) heard many times while growing up. I'm embarrased to
say that I can't place the name of it, but it is soooo familiar. I think it's a very 'American-centric'
tune...can you name it?? I know that you can!!

Subject: wish i still lived in davis california
My buddy chuck introduced me to these guys back in 2002 and I was a huuuge phish fan and also played rather well myself i thought. At first i thought this music was just psychadelic elevator music...until i got psychadelic myself many years later in alabama where i live now and found these wonderfully mastered live shows of kimock. man let me say this, to the guy/gal who posted that this was the first show to go to..you lucked out. great show, and yes remaster guy you did very well. if chuck reads this you will know who i am. much love and contact me if you want. chuck used to do some video of kimock i just can't seem to find it.

Subject: Forgotten Until Now...Another Dose of Chester's Magic
This was my first Zero show and, listening to it again it's easy to see why I fell head over heels for this band. Thanks so much for all the effort that went into finally getting this show up here and ironing out the kinks. It sounds great minus a little chattiness during the Happy Hour set which is unavoidable and not that bad. The band clearly means business as the 2nd song of the show is a 17-minute monster of an "Afro Blue." Keyboardist Chip Roland deserves a lot of credit for delivering one of his better performances throughout this night.
The 2nd set picks up where the first left off with some hot playing and interesting versions. The sparks fly in the final set with one highlight after the next. This is the best "La Fiesta" I've ever heard as Kimock experiences a psychedelic epiphany. "Cissy Strut," "Papa" and "Chance" are all killer as well. This night was hard to top but of course they did so be sure to get 11/23 as well.

Subject: Name of that tune?
I know what you mean, it's familiar, but it may just be the super harmony they reach. It sounds almost acapella, like they are humming together. Quite nice and perhaps it was not intended to be anything other than The Shape I'm In. I would like to hear a suggestion too, but I cannot even make a guess.

As for the show, just the Catalina alone takes the cake. Super great recording with enough of "Bobby's in the house" feel to make it a nice improvement.

Notes

#=w/ "??"(famous tune) tease in last minute of song

Steve Kimock - guitar
Martin Fierro - sax, flute, jokes, vox on "Afro Blue"
Bobby Vega - bass
Chip Roland - keys
Judge Murphy - vox
Greg Anton - drums

Notes:
-- This is a remaster of shnid=110032 & "VGRM09".
-- 5 instances of mild digi-noise remain in "Use Me" st 1:08, 1:18, 1:32, 2:26 & 2:39 into track(not terrible, but there).
-- Bad, huge digi-noise in "La Fiesta" at 4:27 into track for 1.5 seconds that I had to copy left channel over.
Didn't want to, but had no choice as it was very loud & destructive & no other way of getting rid of it.
-- Recorded By Kent Tomita
-- DAT provided by Matthew Berman from Pat "PC" Cooper's collection.
-- Many thanks to Charlie Miller, Kent Tomita, Pat Cooper & Matthew Berman
for sharing this killer show with us all.

original ('VGRM09') notes: OK, so here is a very tasty Zero show from 1996 that I just finished remastering.

Now some of you may be wondering why I remastered this random Zero show. Well, the easy
answer could be, "why not??", but in all reality, I was checking it out & it was a typically great
Zero show from this period, but it just seriously lacked any bass or bottom end to the recording.
I don't know if this was a result of the microphones used or this was how it was mixed in the
house that night, but I like my Zero with the presence of Bobby Vega being known!!!!
After many tries, I believe that I found an EQ that established his meaty presence without
sacrificing the beautiful highs. I hope that you all agree. In my opinion it is much better &
therefore I wanted to share it with you all. I also applied the dc offset, Balanced out the
beginning of the show(Matinee Set) where the taper was getting his levels adjusted, and
found & cleanly removed a few errant clicks, bumps and/or pops(now, of course, I found
& removed many, many more[combed through on 2/24-25/2011]).

Enjoy!!
